I am a recent Adobe Photoshop Elements for the Mac user. The program wants to
upgrade some components, but can't. I believe this is so because it insists in
having items in the Adobe folder in the Utilities folder in the system
Applications folder. I strictly separate out Apple and non-Apple applications an
utilities. It seems that Adobe wants to dump quite a few folders and files in my
Apple Applications and Utilities folders. I am looking for some guide as to what
all these things are (Setup.app, Adobe updater, Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 alias
to the Setup.app ??, Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit 2. I want them all in my
utilities folder. Is this possible? What do these things do??

Leave everything alone or you will have trouble. Adobe just doesn't follow apple
developer guidelines and that's all there is to it.
However, my guess is that this has nothing whatever to do with your problem. So
far the only updates for PSE 6 mac are the updater itself (it takes care of
that) and the Raw converter, which cannot be automatically installed. If you
want the latest version, go here, download, and follow instructions for
installing:

Barbara,
Thanks. I am going to just keep everything the way I like it and bookmark you
link to the downloaders so I can check for updates from time to time.

Barbara,
I have another question. I reinstalled everything on my computer from scratch -
I rebuilt the OS and moved over data and preference files and so forth. I was
able to create an Adobe Folder in my home Applications folder and put Elements
inside of that, along with other Adobe apps. The only problem was the Elements
won't find the Adobe Help Viewer unless it is in the Applications folder at the
root of the HD. This is completely brain dead - no reason AT ALL that that has
to be there.
Is there anyway around this.
I also ordered Creative Suite Web Edition 3.3 and want to install everything in
the Adobe Folder in my Applications folder. Will this work?
Thanks for any assistance you might provide.

Don't do that. Adobe products (and many other companies' products) need to be in
the applications folder. Even apple products will not show updates via software
update if you do this.
