PSE 6: Remove an effect (fill outline)

First time on the forum, I hope I am in the correct location to post this
question.

Is there a way to remove a fill outline from an existing edit. I had saved it
with all the original layers (have not flatten it yet) I notice a trashcan in
the effects area, and after highlighting the fill outline, and clicking on the
trash can it asks me "Are you sure you want to delete
"Fill/Outline"?" yes or no. Hmmm... will I delete the tool that
does fill outline, or will I delete the fill outline on the correctly selected
layer that has the fill outline around the picture?

Or as i suspect, I'm in the wrong territory? ;-)
