healing brushes inop?

So it's time for those school pics that are better than the ones you get 
from school right? I get out elements 6.0 and set to work on my 13 year olds 
blemishes and lo and behold nothing happens. Spot or otherwise the healing 
brushes are doing nothing!

What have I possibly set wrong? I know it *used* to work!

No layers just a simple blemish touch-up and I'm almost embarrassed to admit 
what I found the problem to be. Seems I forgot to pick up my pen and use it 
with my wacom tablet instead of the mouse and in elements, it does know the 
difference when both are enabled in the hardware!

On one note, however, had I not thought of it on my own, I rather believe 
this particular niggle would have taken quite a thread to work down to as I 
could find nothing mentioned anywhere in Adobe's support related to healing 
brush malfunctions much less related to graphics tablets.
