| Quattro Pro Loader causes QPW to fail |
 |

I have a class list from the University in comma delimited text. Every time
I try to open it in QPW, I get a message that says: "Quattro Pro Loader has
stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
Then the program closes, and the data I wanted to work on remains unchanged.
First, can someone explain what Quattro Pro Loader is? I have never heard
of it, and I didn't find it in the help files. Second (and most important),
what is causing the problem, and how can I correct it? Despite the error
message, I did not get a "report" from MS.
I am using a Dell 530 with Vista and Quattro Pro X3 (13.0.0.565).
Ironically, I have downloaded these class lists from the University for a
number of years. Earlier versions of QPW easily converted them into the
type of columns I need with class in one column, student name in another
column, ID in a third column, and email in a fourth column. With each
recent upgrade of QPW, the task became more difficult -- and now it is
impossible because "Loader" causes the whole program to fail.
Please help! I would hate to have to manually type in all that data for 275
students!

Update: This problem with Quattro Pro Loader apparently has nothing to do
with the specific file I mentioned. Today is the first day I have used X3
(although I have used WP with no problem). The computer is only a week old,
and that is when I installed X3 for the first time. I just now opened a
grade sheet that I used last semester, and the same thing happened -- I got
the QP Loader error message and had to exit because QPW was frozen.

You might use a workaround until a better solution for the loader error is
found:
Open the comma-delimited file in Notepad, and copy the file's contents to the
clipboard. Then paste the clipboard's contents to an empty sheet in QPW, and
parse that column using QuickColumns.
Cheers,
Uli

Try replacing the workspace by double-clicking the qpw.exe icon and then
pressing the Left Shift key.
For older qp Notebooks, you will need to change the Recalc mode. See
the post at wpu for details.

I pressed the left shift key while opening Quattro and saw the message
asking if I wanted to open QPW in QPW mode, MS Excel mode, or Lotus 1-2-3
mode. I selected QPW (which is what I had originally selected). That did
not help. The file in comma delimited still brings the loader error
message. I was able to open my grade sheet from last semester without any
problems but haven't checked earlier versions yet. Recalc also worked
correctly in that spreadsheet. Interestingly, I am using a variation of the
question that was posed in the link you provided except that I use a formula
that converts total points (not averages) to a letter grade. I changed some
of the exam grades to see if they would recalculate correctly, and it did
seem correct. I'm still left with the big problem of how to convert the
University file, though. In fact (just as before), I can't even attempt it
because I immediately get the loader error.
