| I really wonder if my QP installation is sketchy |

I have a small chart, with month names. The names start at the upper
left and continue both across and down, thus (excuse of the spacing
doesn't survive):
Jan. Feb. Mar. Apr. May June July Aug. Sept. Oct. Nov. Dec.
Feb. Mar. Apr. May June July Aug. Sept. Oct. Nov. Dec. Jan.
Mar. Apr. May June July Aug. Sept. Oct. Nov. Dec. Jan. Feb.
Apr. May June July Aug. Sept. Oct. Nov. Dec. Jan. Feb. Mar.
May June July Aug. Sept. Oct. Nov. Dec. Jan. Feb. Mar. Apr.
June July Aug. Sept. Oct. Nov. Dec. Jan. Feb. Mar. Apr. May
etc.
Or, it should, but when I block, say, the column that begins with May
and then try to apply "Fill selected blank cells, based on the existing
sequence", I get
Jan. Feb. Mar. Apr. May Jun. Jul.
Feb. Mar. Apr. May Jun. Jul. Aug.
Mar. Apr. May. June June Aug. Sep.
Apr. May. Jun. May. Jul. Sep. Oct.
May. Jun. Jul. July July Oct. Nov.
Jun. Jul. Aug. August Aug. Nov. Dec.
Jul. Aug. Sep. Jun. August Dec. Jan.
Aug. Sep. Oct. Sep. Sep. Jan. Feb.
Sep. Oct. Nov. Oct. Sep. Feb. Mar.
Oct. Nov. Dec. Jul. Oct. Mar. Apr.
Nov. Dec. Jan. November October Apr. May.
Dec. Jan. Feb. December Nov. May. Jun.
(Note the fifth column, beginning with "May"). And the subsequent
columns are similar, repeating some months, especially June. But not
necessarily in sequence.
Also note the varying formats for the month names. Odd.
Geez, why would June be repeated, for GS?
Thanks.

Roy,
Thanks for replying. Alas, not my experience. Maybe I wasn't clear.
I put in, e.g., "Jan. Feb." in two columns, and used quick fill
horizontally. I got 12 months when I had 12 columns, one row, blocked.
But it is the verticals I am having trouble with. I got what I showed,
whole words for "September", "October", e.g. (I shortened
some of the
actual words so as to preserve the columns. There were a lot of various
formats) some times, but not all the time.
And, more seriously, the months are completely out of joint in some
cases. Not all. But beginning with the fifth column, they are unreliable.

Here, I pasted into my QP12.0.0.602
Jan. Feb. Mar. Apr. May Jun. Jul.
and used QuickColumns to split it into columns.
Whether I block individual columns or the whole lot at once, Ctrl-Shift-L
gives me the correct sequence. The May column sees full month names,
because, lacking a final ., May is a full month name. All others are
3-letter abbreviations, with a final .

I believe that your prolblem is related to the fact that you used periods in
the month short names.
If I used some periods after the initial month short names, and "sept"
instead of "Sep", I get all kinds of weird month names showing - some
wrong
months, some full name months, etc.
If I start off with the "Seed" names without periods, and only 3
letters, it
comes out fine.
And remember, the seed names can be only 3 letters for it to work properly.
The software in QP will not properly recognize anything but 3 letter months,
with no punctuation for this operation.
