I am running 3 files. 2 are ok but the 3rd has a light blue rectangle in the
lower left corner and the file is completely frozen. If I drag on the blue
rectangle I get an effect like the completion of a game of solitaire. How
can I fix it, the data is important.

Likely, the file has become corrupt, probably during a Save.
You could try in a new blank Notebook: Insert|File...
Please check the newsgroup
quattropro-faq
where there is a summary of ways to attempt to recover corrupt files.
Also, copying, Sheet by Sheet, to a new Notebook may succeed.
You may need to do some nifty Naming to avoid glitches.
If all else fails, Quick View Plus may be able to read the file; you could
copy the output from there, but not of course any formulae. Or you could
perhaps rescue some text using eg: Notepad: but this is a desperate measure
indeed.
For the future, these 2 ideas may help:
1) ensure write-caching is disabled - this post explains how:
http://www.wpuniverse.com/vb/showthread.php?postid=153203#post153203
2) make very frequent backups
a) QP auto: Tools|Settings|File Options
b) regularly Save, changing the filename regularly -
Barry MacDonnell's macro saves a WP file using sequential numbering:
http://wptoolbox.com/Library/MultiSav.html
c) v9 and earlier: use File|Version Control
- if you use 10ff but also have v9 or earlier, you can still use Versions:
an article in wordperfect-faq applies.
