Can't open a word document

I am running windows 2003 sp2 with the windows rights 1.o sp2. I have the 
database on a seperate sql 2000 server. I have this deployed currently in a 
small test group. When a user tries to open a microsoft word 2003 document it 
tells them to make sure that IE 7 is not in offline mode. which it isn't. The 
user happens problems is in the correct group under the windows rights admin 
console. Maybe I didnt set something up right right. I followed the guide
