| Installing SLES9 in a VMWare Box |

Hi,
I try to install a SLES9 in a VMWare Box (VMWare Server 1.0.0 RC2). When
the install screen went into YAST I will have 4 little green screens of linux.
When I add the x11i=fbdev parameter for booting linux, I'm able to install
SLES9.
But any time, when the graphical screen starts, in the text mode screen I
will get the 4 little linux text screens. I have also installed the
vmware-tools - the same problem. I addes x11i=fbdev to the boot line - the
same problem.
What can I do?

Have you thought about doing the install via VNC or SSH? Start the
installation with VNC/SSH parameters and then connect.
I've got to do the same thing and its the method I was going to use.
Incidentally there is no problem performing a SLES9 install on VMware
ESX 3 using the console client.
Hope this helps.

Well,
my problem is not the installation, but the normal operation of the SLES9
server.
Is there any change to get a "normal" text mode screen and not the 4
litte
green screens, in which I'm not able to identyfy the characters.
The only chance to use the system (after installation) is to get into a
graphical session (like KDE). But for some reasons I must use the text mode
screnn and not the one in the graphical session.
Thanks for any reply - Markus

Hi Markus,
Firstly, check the VMWare site, as there is specific information about
Guest OS installations, and what your asking here is covered regarding
the installation is covered. You *must* use text mode install FYI.
I'm running a number of SLES9 (SP3+YOU's) virtual machines, and have no
problems at all, but every one of them has been installed in text mode.
Make sure you also have the vmware tools installed after, as KDE will
speed up a touch etc,etc.
