okay, where the heck can i install edir, or even novell. I know you can
install it into XEN but i dont know how... can anyone enlighten me. This is
way different than SLES 9. You had those options in YAST. Now its not there.

TIA

First of all, I assume you're talking about OES1, OES2 isn't released
yet and may not be for some time. Second, eDirectory and several of the
Novell products are installed by default. Third, the Xen stuff should
work just the same as SLES9, Fourth, OES *is* SLES9, with novell
products on top, so it's far from "way" different.

Okay let me rephrase then, yes its OES2 almost. Its SLES 10RC3 Im dealing
with. Which is basically OES 2 is it not? Tis what i was told anyway.

So I guess we can from there... yes i know SLES 9 has the edir stuff. I had
SLES 9 before, but now im at SLES 10RC3 and am wanting to use EDIR etc.

No. SLES10 does not contain any products like eDirectory, iPrint, etc.
While OES2 will be based on SLES10, they are not the same thing.

For lack of a better analogy, SLES10 is a SuSE cake without the Novell
frosting :)

eDirectory isn't supported on SLES10 yet since it isn't even out, but it
should be supported sometime after SLES10 is released (it usually takes
1 or 2 months for the guys to test it sufficiently for production). You
may theoretically be able to take the eDirectory RPMs and install them
on SLES10 now, but it is completely unsupported and you can't get help
if you break it.

As for Xen, I believe the YaST modules still can set it up but they
don't come installed by default, you have to install the xen components
using either YaST or zen-installer. I'm not sure about this because I'm
still running beta 10.

Remember that this is an enterprise grade product, so things move slowly
:). SLES9 + eDir or OES works just fine, and that is currently the
recommended way to go if you need eDirectory right now.

Thanks for the heads up... i was told it was basically OES 2. I hope I can
upgrade my server then when it comes out. I just redid all my mail, web,
php, etc etc with it. Lets hope that i can upgrade when OES 2 comes, rather
than clean install.

Anyway, thanks for info. I guess i was steered a bit wrong.
