I have seen this happen before when windows "thumbnail view" was
enabled. to create and retain the thumbnail, ms can write an alternate
data stream (if supported) which contains the thumbnail and attach it to
the original jpg. you tried checking with the sysinternals "streams"
tool?

I've checked (after following some sites on how to disable thumbnail
view) and I do not have it enabled.
After reading a site, I did a search for thumbs.db on my comp and I
don't have any. I *have* seen them before though, but I can't find
them now. ??

I've never even heard of it before. Went to MS site and d/l, but
there is not much of a description, especially on how to use it, and I
have found a SysInt Site Discussion page with not much discussion on
it either. :)
Found this:
http://www.forensicfocus.com/dissecting-ntfs-hidden-streams
Under "Tools to find ADS", it lists several different tools, along
with Streams. What do you think of the other tools on this page? Do
you rate Streams best?
This should be fun. Can't wait to try it, don't quite understand it,

Btw, do you see this:
"Object reference not set to an instance of an object."
at bottom of this page:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/FileAndDisk/Streams.mspx
Do you know what that is about and is it something to do with a
setting on my browser or what?

That could be anything as it's a very general error. It's likely a bug in
their webpage, possibly as a result of something you have disabled.

I thought it put all the thumbnails in the thumbs.db file.
