I wonder if we distributive computing process as used by SETI et al might be 
used as a way to locate and ID botnets?

Well, it's probably a lot easier to keep tabs on zombies (bots) by 
detecting their spam-sending @sses at the SMTP servers they're spewing to.

SpamCop is in a sense a big distributed detector of botnets, although it

Why? SMTP logs and logs from DDOS attacks do that just as well, of course it 
helps if someone actually uses them.
