The fax console and related fax stuff is found in Accessories/
Communication

About 6 months ago we had a discussion in alt.comp.freeware about how to
send faxes free (or nearly free) without a modem.

I thought a basic FAX "Printer" device was supplied with WIN-XP(didn't
Msoft
buy WinFaX?), But I can't seem to get it going.
I've gone and added FAX services as suggested on MS knowledgebase, but the
accessory that is supposed to turn up (I'm not at that computer right now)
doesn't and no FAX option becomes available as a print device.
Any Ideas? or does one still have to buy or find FAX software?
I send maybe 1 or 2 FAXes a year from home I sure don't need anything fancy
so the most basic service that lets me feed a number to dial the modem would
do fine.

Yup, precisely what fails to install the FAX console.

My experience with removing and replacing Win faxware in pieces and
parts is about the old W95 fax for the W9x family, in which one needed
both a MAPI client and the fax app, which came in two different pieces
back then - which needed to be installed in the correct order. [By way
of commenting on missing pieces.]
My only XP fax over yonder came installed, so I don't know about the
installation (or removal) process, but I think my approach would be to
R&R it to see if I got the same result.
