| Unresponsive DVD drive |

I am using drive letter access for my DVD drive.
Sometimes when I am reading the DVD, the computer hangs and I get
'unresponsive DVD drive' in the windows task manager.
Usually I cannot 'end task' and have to actually press the power button for
several second to turn off the computer.
Any suggestions of where to look for an answer to this problem.
BTW the 'evnetvwr' does not show any 'problems'.

Probably not the registry file. How often does it happen? 1 time of
10? 1 of 100? 1 of 2?
Is it only one specific DVD? Can you read CD-R's and the like and do
the same thing?
Can you shut down the computer via the Start button versus holding the
power button? (normal versus abornmal)
Have you checked the integrity of your hard disks recently?

Sounds like you have something majorily wrong with your reg file or
something else is corrupted....first you're reporting BSOD problems, now
this? Having the puter lock up hard is a symptom of some serious
issues.....do you have any process explorer apps installed to see what's
going on?

Agreed, re the registry thing. Sounds like a CD/DVD drive problem,
maybe dirty, failing or failed. Detailed asnwers to the above questions
will help diagnose it a lot.

It started with one particular DVD.
I found that part of it was that the DLA was not compatible - so made disk
compatible.
This helped but when I was copying the disk it hung on one particular
folder.
As last resort, cleaned drive - this allowed that folder to be read.
ODD.
Maybe drive was dirty (had tried cleaning the DISC - no change.
