I'm not sure the coyotes that get hunted in some areas are the 'same'
coyotes that cause 'problems' in their interactions with the shared
human/coyote habitat.

Where I live, there are lots of coyotes and they cause trouble for
pets -- ie they especially like to kill/eat people's cats and
occasionally dogs. They are very successful predators, and the same
cats that are way way too quick or feisty for dog encounters are too
slow or meek for coyotes.

But, the coyotes certainly aren't endangered, and as such their
populations need to be managed and hunters and hunting regulations are
good managers of wildlife populations.

I still vote for a Great Pyrenees. Ours is on her last days but still
manages to keep the varmints away just laying on the porch. (That and she
pees the perimeter as a 'welcome to my world' notice). Works at my house,
urine might be different.
