| She's gone |

This was written three days ago and only now can I post.
My long time best friend, boon companion and ride alone buddy is gone.
She's been under my desk for months, quietly resting.
Yesterday her cats (who she raised from kittens and were always up for a
game of 'smite', chase and bite) came by often to gently groom her.
This morning she was unable to get up and hardly recognized any of us.
She did respond to my youngest grand daughter (whom she raised) but only
just so, putting her large head in my grand daughter's lap and pawing gently
at her hand to prompt for a few gentle caresses.
She rode gently by my side in our van. Managed to get out on her own power,
checked out her favorite messenger posts and walked calmly but unsteadily
into the vet's exam room.
She stood with her muzzle against my chest while the vet did what was
needed. She laid down in my arms, licked my hand as though to say good by
and went to sleep.
Through it all she, pointedly, did not notice that my wife and I were
crying. Something she has never missed before as she was always at her best
to comfort us.
We were blessed with her friendship, honored to be able to make her last
moments comfortable.
Go in peace from our lives, my friend, but never from our hearts.

My sympathies, FP. I know how great a loss you have suffered. Be thankful he
went in peace, with you by his side to comfort him. Sounds like he was ready
to go to that great big doggie park in the sky.

Sympathies. Over the years we've also been there many many times. It's
always painful.
Glad to see that you believe like me that it's important to be there when
the moment comes. They always deserve the companionship right up to the
last.
