Have you checked out the google translation? I don't know how well it
does English > French, but my experience with the pages it translates
into English has been very good. Here's an example of the spamcop site

Feature Request : Translation of spamcop's main website

Hello,

First sorry for my English.

I have search in the forum, but not easy to find something about.
I'm french, and lot of my friends complains about spamcop website because is
only in English. They search about a report spams platform since our french
spam-rbl.net is now down.

Maybe is audacious project, translate ( almost the description/help ) part
of spamcop website.

Can be done by translating include files as languages
lang/Fr-fr/language.inc , lang/Eng-eng/language.inc .. files, maybe shared
through a versioning system as svn.

Will be GREAT ;)

I request your advice about.

Cheers,

vcf.

I agree with you that different languages would be great! The problem is
how to do it. At the moment, none of the people (all volunteers) who are
involved with the forum are probably in a position to be able to help much.

You could start a thread of the FAQ in French - adding to it as you can -
following the same format as the English FAQ. I have always thought that a
French or Spanish or German, etc. forum for spamcop users to help each other
in their own languages would be a great addition.

Part of the problem is that the only person who could and would be able to
set it up is very much occupied with his offline life at this time, but as I
said I would support a sub thread of the FAQ in other languages.

Hello Mike,

Please be serious, the automatic translation is cleaver as made by an
Spanish cow ;(

Is near readable, lot of time funny , but definitely not professional.

As lot of spams in France come from USA, and spams in USA come from France (
is my opinion ) I think spamcop's website in differents languages will be
really great. Can interest lot of French people, cause as you known, French
people only speak and understand French, as me ;)

Not all for the start, just some importants pages.
Is maybe an hard job, but I am ready to participate ( english to french
only! )

Regards,

vcf

Hello Betsy ,

I have experienced some internalization of existing websites.
The common error is to translate the site in differents folders -> hell.

One , maybe not the best , solution is :

- Keep the original website as is.
- Create a new folder called 'languages' and start to translate texts in
arrays. ( located in files as en_US, fr_FR files .. )
-Step by step, modify pages for incorporate translated strings.

I think is the best because translators can access to the languages files
only, never the main website. By modify pages step by step the
administrator can smoothly transform the site without any interruption and
always keep the original language. He can do that when I have some free
time ..

As the website must get the right language 'on the fly', each page must be
interpreted by your preferate engine, for example PHP. So, the main
index.html page must be now index.php

Just for the fun, I tried to do this with the main index page of spamcop.
For transforming to index.php and include internalization, is around 4 hours
of work. Create 3 files of language : english, french and brazilian is
around 2 hours of work.

A private demo is available at
http://www.keosystems.com/dev/spamcop_international/ ( ask a login/password
by mail for access ) This is the main page of spamcop available in 3
languages via flag pictures.

I see, maybe is more easy to propose just the translatation of text arrays ?

Humm FAQ translation is important, but the very first 'eye' of the site is
more important. If the person do not understand the first page, he will
never goes on the FAQ, I think.

Maybe I will Do. Take a look about the demo, source file on request.

Regards,

( and very sorry again for my ugly english )
