Encrypting/decrypting phone calls

Encrypting/decrypting phone calls
Fri, 21 Jul 2006 22:24:20 +020
Hallo,

I would like to apply a new encrypting algorithm on phone calls (Nokia
6680). I have downloaded Carbide IDE and SDK S60 Second Edition, but I
couldn't find the appropriate API. I suppose that the API I need is not
publically available. Could you please tell me if such an API exists, and if
it exists, what are the conditions of its use.

Thanks,
Mladen

I believe that the cryptography APIs are only available to certain groups of
partners and are also subject to export restrictions.

Hi Mark!

Thanks for the answer!
Actually I do not want to use the existing cryptography API, because I have
my own algorithm. What I need is access to low level functions to code bytes
obtained after sampling and compression and before transmission. Could you
please tell me about possibility to access these functions and the
conditions of their use?

Thanks,
Mladen

Hi

No idea, but I suspect that the point that you would need to access the
audio stream would be below the Symbian OS layers. You might try raise the
same question to Nokia.

You could do this on Symbian OS for a "data" call, since there you
have a
handle on the data stream.

The information you are requesting on use of Symbian cryptographic APIs is
subject to export control. Unfortunately, this means that we are not at
liberty to divulge any details of usage to anyone other than specific
licencees and partners, under contract. Furthemore, under the rules of the
UK authorities, the Symbian cryptographic algorithms should not in any way
be replaced or altered. If we believe that there is intent to do so, or that
this is happened, we are obliged under the conditions of the export licences
that we hold, to notify the authorities. I would therefore strongly
recommend that you avoid making the changes you have outlined in your email
below.
