Start On Boot on Symbian 9.1

Start On Boot on Symbian 9.1
Wed, 24 May 2006 09:54:45 +020
We have a product that uses the Start On Boot Registration API on
Symbian 7 and 8. We're currently porting this to 9.1, but there is a
problem with Start On Boot:

make -s -r -f
"\Development\tools\S603rd\EPOC32\BUILD\Development\tools\S603rd\S60Ex\Swit
chboard\group\SWITCHBOARD\GCCE\SWITCHBOARD.GCCE"
UREL arm-none-symbianelf-ld:
..\..\..\EPOC32\RELEASE\ARMV5\LIB\EXESTARTONBOOT.dso: No such file: No
such file or directory

This is unsurprising, since there is no ARM5 version of the API - the
question is when this will be available?

That API has been removed from OS9, it has been replaced with a resource file
which specifies how to boot when the device starts up

Hi

Strictly speaking its a completely different API. Nokia have implemented
their own start-on-boot mechanism.

UIQ have not, and Symbian does intend to provide a UIQ version of the
existing start-on-boot. Timing still up in the air due to resourcing issues.

I see Nokia has removed their API without an explanation - and I didn't
try to download it before it was gone.

At the same time, Symbian has apparently updated the ExeStartOnBoot
package - the website states that it was updated 2006-06-16. The link is
to the same old 1.3s version though. Anybody know if this is indeed
supposed to be a new version?

Sincerely,

Which API? Removed from where?
Nokia offers APIs only as part of the SDK and the S60 3rd SDKs (the final
version and the new Maintenance Release) are available for download at
http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/0,6566,034-4,00.html
