Hi,
I am a newbie to newsgroups rather than mailing lists, so perhaps I've
misunderstood something...
I've been saving useful posts from this list in my newsreader (Opera 9)
since before the summer. I wanted to ask a question here today and then
realised I'd asked something similar in September. Looking back through
the list of posts I found it, but when I click on the post's name I cannot
view the contents.
Is this the way newsgroups go - the bodies are stored elsewhere, and
deleted after a time? The thread in question starts with message:
------------
Subject: Workflow when using stock images

Message-ID: <op.tfqbyvbao4kg9m@peter-bowyer>
Newsgroups: public
------------
Can anyone else access it?
Thanks, and happy Christmas!

I've always found traditional newsgroups to be good for immediate
communication. But when it comes to archiving, and searching for past posts,
the newsgroup weakness becomes apparent.
If I'm new to a newsgroup and I wish to search for past answers, so I don't
ask something answered already, there's no way for me to do so without
downloading ALL the past posts.
With this group (and others), I've found I have to save the entire message
of any post I think I may wish to access in the future. Otherwise, if I
reset my newsreader's cache for any reason, I've lost the ability to search,
without re-downloading everything. Not very efficient, but there you have
it.
Some newsgroups will have a web-interface that can compensate for this.

Don't see an actual search facility but if you know the thread or date, you
can revisit them without having to download everything here -
http://groups.archivesat.com/WebDev_public/ .
Discovered this a few weeks ago by accident.
