One of the companies my brother wants to go with for SEO, possible
webdesign, said he needs to do what I have copied and pasted below:
2. Keyword research to determine which keyword phrases (2-3 word
keywords) are to be focused on based on number of requests for that keyword
phrase and relevance in the search engines.
He said he will spend 3 hours to do this and is going to charge him $250. He
has already done numerous river rafting sites for others. Does that cost
sound reasonable to you? Then:
28. Re-index in search engines one time FREE, a $300 value. Additional
submission options are available at cost ranging from $400 - $1100.
Does that sound reasonable?
Just curious.

That's kinda what I thought. It was my understanding that the keyword
research was all he was going to do for $250.
I'm really not clear what my brother is getting for what cost. He is ready
to sign this guy up for the job. In the "memo" he does not quote any
other
prices than the ones I mentioned. He lists 31 things that need to be done to
better optimize his website.
He has this week off but when he gets back, I think he is going to sign on
the dotted line.

I say hire Murray - or me. :)
I just came across someone like this and the potential client thought
the guy was a "true internet expert" in every sense. Loved him. I
tried
to point out that the guy was overcharging and some things were out
dated, others completely unnecessary but this potential client didn't
want to listen. You can only do so much.

I'll do that job for $200. But, really, the only thing of value would be
the keyword analysis of the session logs....
