| Instant Messaging between PC and Mac HAPPY NEW YEAR! |

I would like to be able to IM to my mother's computer. On my Windows
Messenger, I have the ability to allow someone to 'take control' if I give
them permission. I would like my mother to have something like that for her
Mac that will work with my computer.
I am constantly trying to help her reconfigure her email but she's on a Mac
and 72 years old and gets frustrated and when I get the instructions and try
to walk her through it over the phone.
Is there an IM program that will do this that she can download on her Mac?
She's using Mac Mail. Isn't there another Mac email client as well?
Thanks and a prosperous and wonderful New Year to you all.

I'm not aware of any IM programs with that functionality. Although, there
are programs that can do this. The caveat is that they may not be simple to
setup. You can try any of the VPN programs, or maybe Timbuktu (commercial
app). I've also seen mention of some other apps, but they're shareware-type
apps and I've no experience with them. You can do a search at
VersionTracker.com or MacUpdate.com for remote control apps, things like
AstroShare, NetOps, SpyMe, etc.

There are lots of email apps, from free to commercial: Thunderbird,
Mailsmith, Entourage, Eudora, etc. Again, search on VersionTracker or
MacUpdate for more apps.

ICQ or MSIM does that on both platforms.

MSIM can take over my machine? How?
As for email, as mentioned, there's lots of options, but on the Mac, they
all seem to be about the same. IMHO, none of them are exceptional, but all
are adequate. Mail.app is fine for no other reason than it's already on the
machine.

Sorry - I was responding to the subject line. She is looking for remote
administration? <shrug> I dunno....
