While it may seem obvious your primary goal to improve performance is to reduce
the number of objects that are being created and destroyed.   There may well be
something in your implementation code that is causing more object creation than
is needed.  

Can you explain something about what type of application this and what it is
doing?  

It will also be helpful if you can post the version of the OS and the JVM that
