Hi Tom,

I think it would be really complex to remove the database call from the
operation as it is common authentication procedure that is being used elsewhere
(with no performance issue though).  The size of the connection pool is set to
100.  As I monitored the stats through admin console during the test, the number
of active connections is way under the pool can handle.  

Thank you so much for your reply.  I will look closer at the connection pool
settings again.
