Morning Gang! I sure hope the quietness in here is because you're all out
designing websites!
I am wondering if anyone has experience with any programs that create
galleries of images - sort of a thumbnail creator that will also generate
the code for links to the full size image or download zip. I would like
something that could be customized with the sites templates and/or
background tile and buttons.
Opinions and recommendations would be most appreciated :o)
Have a great Wednesday!

I've used Infranview before. It's free ;)
Ulead PhotoExplorer 8 (I got it free because I have bought Ulead products in
the past) will do it with lots of options. I think it is a real inexpensive
program anyway - around $19 or $29 USD. But they used to have a free version
that had banner ads that you could download.

If you don't mind tag soup pages, there are tons.
Corel/Jasc has PhotoAlbum formerly known as PaintShop Pro Album which
uses included templates to generate thumbnails and pages with soupy code
and all tables. Jumping through numerous hoops yields a slightly more
custom site, but not worth my time to do so. I purchased it for the
gallery creation, and am not using it or recc'ing it to anyone.
You can use various image programs to generate your full size images and
thumbnails.
Paint Shop Pro 8,9,X all included a script (Thumbnail_150)which can be
used to batch create thumbnails and your full sized images for web use.
You can copy the script and change the 150 pixel to any desired size.
That leaves you to create your own page code which would match your site
or use a third party program to use those images.
Less "soupy" options:
Not Free:
* http://www.webphotospro.com/key-features/
trial versions. has a server and non-server version.
keep meaning to try this but haven't had time yet.
example pages are validating
Free:
*Stu Nicholls' here:
http://www.webreference.com/programming/css_gallery/index.html
* Gallery Creator http://pranas.net/WebGalleryCreator/ looks like you
can get as custom as you want using template files and CSS. I was
impressed with the code this generated by default.
* Jalbum http://jalbum.net/ may depend on the skin you choose. Does have
an area explaining how to create your own skin/theme.
* Picture Pager http://pictpage.sourceforge.net/index.html
possibly uses tables for layout.
*Most of the others I looked at either did tables, frames or
really horrid 1990s style HTML coding.
I did check the example pages when they were available for validation
and they didn't pass.
Do-it-yourself:
* http://www.stopdesign.com/log/2005/08/24/photo-templates.html
http://stopdesign.com/templates/photos/
with a link to downloads for CSS and MT templates listed on page
and link to his functioning galleries as well.
Note: requires Moveable Type account.
* http://more.ericmeyeroncss.com/
More Eric Meyer On CSS- Project 2- styles a photo collection.
(book promo, project files are online for down load.)
*http://www.maxdesign.com.au/presentation/definition/index.htm
Definition lists to style an image gallery.
Scroll to nearly the bottom for the sample page.
Free generally mens you'll be doing all the work.
Paid means you'll get most or all the features in your requirements, but
not in your budget.
