So Cool!! And so frustrating too!
I am trying to put together a streaming media post - after all it is Taylor
Hicks Tuesday :o) So - I decided to see if I could do a screen capture from
video of last weeks performance. Pretty basic stuff really, I've just never
tried it with Media Player before. I started the video playing in Media
Player - switched back to PSP to set up the capture import - switched back
to the video and waited until the perfect shot happened and clicked for the
capture. As expected, the screen capture opened a new image window in PSP,
and PSP became the active application.
Now here is cool part...
The video was still playing in Media Player...... AND it was PLAYING in the
PSP window too!!! LOL - of course I tried but couldn't access any of the
Media Player controls in PSP - so I switched to Media Player and pressed
PAUSE... switched back to PSP - where amazingly the video screen was paused
too!!
Thinking this was just a fluke - or I must have had some really awesome TEA
last night before bed... I went back to Media Player and restarted the video
playing.... and it also restarted in the PSP capture window. A very cool
thing - but now I am without a screen capture of Mr. Hicks - so I guess I
have to pause the Media Player video exactly where I want it before doing
the screen capture in PSP... right???
More weirdness....
I just tried the pause before capture theory ... for some reason the image
in the captured window was not the same as the actual WMP window (Taylor's
head was not in the middle of the screen view like it was in Media
Player --- I clicked to move the window around on the PSP desktop ----
AND ----- the image of Taylor STAYED IN PLACE - that image WAS in fact STUCK
and not moving, right in the middle of my entire PSP screen!! Media Player
was the moveable frame. I could move the capture window around, but NOT the
image inside the window of Media Player. I can add to the canvas size,
resize the image - but the video part of the capture remains the same size,
no matter how big or small I make the Media Player 'frame' - also - I cannot
remove the 'frame' and keep the image - the image disappears when I try to
move the frame out of the way...lol
AND then when I pressed the play button to take the player off pause mode -
it started again in the PSP window too!! Holee Cannolli Batman!! Freaked me
out and made me think twice about what the heck I was trying to do, I tell
ya!! okay - so I have no idea how useful any of this is in real life
applications - lol - I just had to share my WOW factor with you :o)
K.Dee :)
/who is still without a decent screen capture -
because when I save the file as a JPG - the media screen saves blank - no
image at all :o(
And a PrtScn of the screen capture only produces the same results but with a
PSP frame around the Media Player frame

Well my Techie solved this strange anomaly as soon as he shook the sleep
webs from his head :o) Of course I was babbling on, a mile a minute - and
showing him examples of ALL that happened - "Now watch what happens
here" -
"Look at this now" and "See what I mean?" - lol - all before
his first cup
of coffee!! high maintenance or what?
I am using WMP 10 - so CTRL+I will not work for a screen capture like it
does in WMP 9.
To perform a lasting capture that is not 'live' in your other applications
you need to go to Tools/Options/Performance/Advanced and take the check mark
out of "Use Overlays" in the Video Acceleration section *s*
And yes - the Windows side of things could be explained a lot faster than
the PSP side of things - I just thought it was cool how the video played in
the PSP window.
Of course having all that explained to me took all the AWE out of what
happened this morning.... but I do appreciate now knowing why... even though
I gave up and used a stock photo before he could solve the mystery :o)
Thanks TechB!

Umm...I hate to interrupt your "babbling"...;-), you were doing such a
nice
job talking to yourself.<G>
But does PSP mean Paint Shop Pro? I"m a teacher, I'm going to do some web
page dev. and graphics stuff with some students next year, I was wondering
if Paint Shop Pro would be a good one.
I'm planning on teaching them hand coding, just so they see the relationship
btwn HTML and what happens on the page. At some point, I may use an editor
like Dreamweaver or Nvu. Would you suggest one or the other? Or a different
one.:-)

<G> I babble on no matter who is listening, reading, or paying attention.
Joe, what is the age group of the kids you will be teaching? Also, how long
will your course be running for them? How many students in the class? Paint
Shop Pro is my program of choice when it comes to graphics, and I am
learning something new almost everyday. It may be too much to handle for a
classroom full of kids. Let me know the basics about your class and I'll see
if there are alternative and easier programs for the tasks. Chances are that
you qualify for educational licensing for the programs - what programs are
already available to you and the students?
When it comes to editors, the standard seems to be FrontPage. Personally I
would choose Nvu over Dreamweaver simply because of costs - one is free the
other is not :o)
My son was 14 when I first loaded PSP and FrontPage on his computer. I can't
remember exactly what I showed him with those 2 programs, but I know it
wasn't much, just basic stuff from a bare bones template. It wasn't long
before he was showing me things I didn't know *s*. Within a couple months he
was hosting 7 different interactive websites with bells and whistles, as
well as putting together sites for his school and various classroom
projects - for classes he was never in <G>. Kids are a quick study, hungry
and eager for this sort of knowledge - your class will be a great success
and launch pad for many of them :o)

The kids are going to range in age from 4th grade up to 8th grade. It'll be
a small group (like 6 or 7 kids) I'm going to be the gifted and talented
teacher next year.
Ever since I started at Marion, I've wanted to get some motivated kids to do
some web page development. There by necessity should be so much exploration
that I'd never try it with a full class of kids. About the time Suzy started
working, John'd poke Jeff, Suzy'd have a question which I couldn't answer
cause I had to talk to John and Jeff..ad nauseum...So I'm excited about the
opportunity.:-)
It's going to run the entire school year. Now I probably will not do
internet stuff *every* meeting though. We have MS Office, and some other
programs that I've found and put on, but Office is the main suite.
I'd like to figure out something for them using an audio editor I really
like called Audacity ,it's a free open source editor. Another program I use
is PhotoStory 3.
You have a point about Nvu vs. Dreamweaver (cost), however does Nvu do
javascript, etc? I'm not really familiar with using an Editor at all,
althought I have used Front page a fair amount. It's so easy though, I'd
like to avoid it.:-/
I was going to get some copies of Front Page, but then decided it's too much
spoon feeding for the kids, I want them to understand the relationship
better between what they do and what happens on a web page, i.e. I don't
want a total WYSIWYG editor like Front Page.
