Open the Services console from the Console Panel -> Administrative Tools.
Look at the very bottom. If World Wide Web Publishing is not present, then you
have not installed the website component of IIS. If it is present but not
started, then start the service.

I am using a Windows XP system with Visual Studio 2005 and perfectly working
Internet connection. All websites run properly.
However, When I go to ControlPanel-> Administrative Tools--> IIS, I do not
see Websites folder under the Local Computer Icon. I see an FTP Sites folder
though.
Also, while creating a web site in Visual Studio, I get the following error
"Unable to create Web Project ‘WebApplication1’. Could not find a web
server at ‘localhost’ on port 80. Please check to make sure that the web
server name is valid and your proxy settings are set correctly. If you are sure
that everything is correct, the web server may be temporarily out of
service"
I have tried the following:
1. Ping 127.0.0.1 works fine
2. I go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections Tab -> Lan Settings
and set the ‘Bypass proxy server for local addresses’. This makes me lose
Internet connnection.
3. No wwwRoot folder in c:/InetPub.
Note sure what is going on. Please Help!
