| Shared hosting... meh. |

I might as well be writing html pages in notepad.
A website I maintain is hosted by Godaddy on a shared server. I was going to
write an app that used a SQL database until I found out I couldn't do anything
with the DB except read from it (select only, no Update, no insert, no delete...
basically useless). I rehashed this project recently with the intention of
traversing the filesystem to get the info I needed instead of relying on a
database. Well, as it turns out System.IO is crippled as well. I can't even do a
GetDirectories or GetFiles. I guess they expect everything to be hand inserted
or hardcoded. This is totally worthless to me, so here's my question... is there
a hosting company out there that offers shared hosting that isn't 99.9%
castrated? Or another option that isn't $50 a month? I'm out of ideas...

jm2: I cannot figure out what I am and am not allowed to do in a shared hosting
environment, or more specifically - godaddy's shared hosting environment. Worse
yet, their staff doesn't seem to know either.
And yet you continue to host with them...
