Of course it's really young, but some may find this interesting:

Wow, the win32 terminal is really showing its age next to those other
ones. Even the Win CE emulator has better looking font rendering heh.
~JasonG (who is still wondering if windows will ever get a real ansi
terminal for this wonderful shell)

Have you tried Console 2 (http://sourceforge.net/projects/console)?
The implementation is a hack, but it looks better than Win32 consoles,
and it's backward-compatible.
A better console in windows (not a hack) would still be nice.
It should be possible to keep the old implementation in parallel, and
