MS update kb943464 prevents access from network neighborhood to server

Re: Wordperfect 11, (11.0.0.233, the original install version)

Can anyone advise of the proper application name for the AllowException
workaround, or if the WP 11 service packs will address this issue, or any
other solution to the following problem.

Microsoft's Windows Critical Update (KB943460) issued 11/14/07 is causing
attempts to access folders/documents from the existing network neighborhood
shortcut to fail. The AllowException workarounds described in the
knowledgebase article are not working with any of the following application
names: wpwin11.exe, wpwin.exe, wpwin11.dll, or wpdes11.exe.

Just to clarify, the user(s) are opening WP11, clicking on
File>Open>Network
neighborhood then clicking on the existing shortcut/link to the file/folder
on the server. Essentially, nothing happens, and the user is left/returned
to the same screen.

Thanks.

For the record, updating WP11 with service packs 1, 2 and 3 does not resolve
the issue.

Also for the record, what version of Windows are you using that is updated
by KB943464?

I tried to find 943464 at the Microsoft Knowledge Base and was
unsuccessful.

The OS is Microsoft Windows XP Professional. And embarrassingly, the KB
number I wrote was wrong, the correct number is 943460.

Hi,

This past weekend I updated XP on my clients systems. Yesterday I was
informed that they had the same problem that you described. I found two
"work arounds" that you may want to try.

The first is to use WP's file manager as usual and when you get to the "My

Network Places" screen that doesn't respond, try right clicking on your
choice and you will get a "Select" screen, then click on
"Open" and your
folders should appear. Make your selection and it will load into
WP.....BUT the selection screens will remain so you will have to close
them to see WP again.

If the files you want to access from the network are in the one folder,
try setting up a network drive that points to that folder. Then from WP's
file manager you select that network drive instead of "My Network
Places." From there on the second method works pretty much the same as
the "old" way, i.e. the selection screens disappear after you make
your
selection and you are right back to WP.
