| Can't insert JPEG images into WP12 and Presentations 12 documents |
 |

I am creating a document where I am inserting JPEG images throughout,
amongst the text paragraphs. Copying and pasting images from an existing
Presentations 12 show works fine. But when I try to insert a JPG image
stored in a folder, there is a message stating "Detected file format is not
supported". This happens with any JPG I've tried -- both those created
from
my digital camera, and those downloaded off the web. I have not had this
problem before, as I have inserted JPG into documents many times before.
For some reason, this problem is also happening in Presentations, except
there is no error message -- the file just never gets inserted and the page
remains blank.
FYI -- the method I use is "Insert --> Graphics --> From File -->
choose JPG
file --> click Insert.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Roy. I'll try what you suggested. But why could I insert the same
type of JPGs before, into both WP and Presentations, without a hitch, and
now all of a sudden I have problems. I'm using the same digital camera as
before, and nothing else has changed. I tested this with the exact same
images as I successfully inserted into a Presentations show several months
ago, but it did not work. This doesn't make sense to me -- it worked then,
but not now.

Svend

Bingo! That did the trick. Thanks Roy! I ran repair from the Control Panel
> Add/Remove Programs, and it worked fine. All is well again.
Any ideas as to what caused it, so I can avoid it in future?

There are varieties of jpg, and WPO does not like at least one of them.
If you Open the jpg file in an image editor, perhaps:
the excellent http://www.irfanview.com/
Download all the plugins while you are there.
and then Save it, WPO can cope.
The problem is that if you reSave as .jpg, then two levels of compression are
applied, and quality can suffer. If you save as e.g: TIFF, no quality loss
occurs but file size balloons.
Try Copying from the image editor and Pasting into WP/Pres.

H'm. Something clearly has changed, even if it is not at once apparent.
You could try a Repair:
Close down all Corel apps. Have your CD in the drive. If it auto-runs, click
Exit.
Disable any anti-virus software.
Locate the .msi file in the root directory of the CD.
Right-click on that file, and select Repair.
Or you may be able to access the Repair function through
Control_Panel|Add/Remove_Programs, select your WP version, Change, and
choose (x)Repair.
In v11 and later you cannot instruct Repair to ignore items - if they are
not selected, they are removed.
Break for coffee.
