There are at least 10 reasons why this can happen. See

Files appear to be modified without being changed

When I open some of my documents in WP12, I'll get a prompt to save
changes, even when I haven't made any change, but merely looked at it.
The documents were generally created in WP7, but even if I save them in
WP12 I'll get the same prompt when I open them the next time. Should I
look for a code or something else in the document that might cause this?
Thanks.

If you had a different printer listed for the file originally, this
saving will happen. You can elect NOT to save it. Good luck

Thank you both for the advice, and your link to the help document. I'm
pretty sure it's a printer issue, though I'll also check on fonts.
