It is a known problem. Is your wp fully patched?

Document save moves cursor/insertion point position

When saving a document in WP12, the cursor/insertion position somtimes
shifts to another location, sometimes top of page, top of screen, or
another page. This happens in Draft or Page view, and happens only with
the "Save" icon on the toolbar or Ctrl-S, but not with "File,
Save"
using the top menu. It doesn't happen all the time or with all
documents. It may work correctly in one part of a document, and yet pop
around in another part of the same document. Reveal Codes or Shadow
Cursor settings don't seem to make a difference. I notice in Reveal
Codes that the insertion point has moved to the same different cursor
location that I see in the document.

I've searched for messages that might describe the same peculiarity, but
didn't find anything, though I wasn't sure just how to describe it for a
search. Is this moving cursor something that others have experienced,
and is there a cure?

One computer is patched to SP3, the other (a laptop) is unpatched. I see
the same problem on both, though I use the same customized template for
both.

I opened the Auto-Generate option and saw that it was already unchecked
(as I expected). In order to try to do what you said, I checked the
option, let a document generate, and went back and unchecked it again. I
didn't see any change in the cursor jump, so it seems clear the bug is
active when not using the Auto-Generate option.

I don't know how the Auto-Generate option is set on the default
installation, but I'm almost certain that I have never used it until today.

Please let us know if the following resolves your problem.

Problem:
In WPWinX3, WPWin12 and WPWin11, the current view of the document
changes, on File, Save, if the Auto-Generate option is set.

Preliminary:
Do Tools, Reference, Lists and check the "Auto-Generate" checkbox.

Steps to demonstrate:
1. Launch WPWin, and open a multi-page document.
2. Place the cursor near the top of a page, and make a text change to
modify the document.
3. Do File, Save.

Error:
The page view has changed so that the line of text containing the cursor
is now at the bottom of the display screen.

Comment:
There now seem to be several cursor jumping bugs, which are active when
auto-generate box is checked.
