I have a document that includes some shaded paragraph blocks, and a
little bit of outlining.
When I come to the last few paragraphs, where I would like to change
them to outline form, WP terminates.
My procedure is:
Go to last page
Place cursor at beginning of one of the paragraphs in question. (Reveal
Codes doesn't show anything there but a HRt)
Insert>Numbering, and WP terminates.
Does anyone have a suggestion?
Thanks.

If it only happens with that document, you should suspect document
corruption. See http://wptoolbox.com/tips/RepairDocs.html

Barry,
(One month later -- Hah!)
The techniques you mentioned were a useful exercise as I hadn't need to
use any of them in so many years, that they were a bit left behind where
I'm concerned. Thanks for the educational suggestions.
What in the end worked, though, was to isolate the part of the document
that was causing a problem (using Insert>Number/Outline at a certain
point caused WP to crash) by blocking and copying, then creating a new
doc. I then used Insert>Number/Outline successfully, and copied the text
back into the original doc. Everything's fine, now.
Odd, though, no?
Don.

It might still be useful to make a backup and load the new document into
WPLOOK and run Repair several times on it. Sometimes multiple
copy-and-paste or cut-and-paste operations can bring along an unforeseen
problem into the new document. (Sort of like what happened to Dr.
Frankenstein's monster. <g>)
Can't hurt to clean the document again....

Barry,
LOL!
OK, a good suggestion. I'm going to go do it as you suggested.
