Printing booklets
Tue, 25 Mar 2008 14:57:41 -060
Hello:
I designed a document consisting in a legal paper size landscape orientation
with two sided printing. Then I want to use manual two sided printing. Then
I selected odd pages to print. But, after this, I want to complete my
printing process, then I select even pages, but WP send the same pages to
the printer. ¿Whats tehe problem?
I'm using WP 12, but I downloaded WPX3 trial, and the situation is the same.
Any help will be appreciated.
Rodrigo.

Rodrigo, there has been a problem with WP's booklet printing for a long
time (since version 9 at least, I think).

Print as booklet, using manual odd & even pages, overrides all other
settings except the number of copies & the collate checkbox. When you
choose print as booklet, WP prints all the pages in the range you have
selected, & always in the same order. So you have to print, then reverse
the page order before reprinting, to get the result you want - & the
result will be two complete booklets.

This is not a problem if you are printing a four page booklet, as you
only have to switch one top page to the bottom. But if you want to print
a lot of copies of a multiple page booklet, it can be a pain.

It is also not a problem if you are printing masters for a photocopier,
as one print run will give you all the masters, though you will have to
arrange them for the photocopier to get the order correctly.

If your print driver allows it, you might try selecting automatic two
sided printing. With my printer, if the setup is something my automatic
duplexer can't handle, it prints one side & then prompts me to change
the pages to print the other side. That might work for you.

One post re: WP10/11; one re: WP12; one re: printer K-M Magicolor 2400 under
WPX3.

This reply in a Corel ng explains what worked for Larry Lewis in WP10 and 11:

I had some trouble setting up booklet printing with my
Epson Stylus C82. Here are the steps I take (could work for you):

1. Format-->Page-->Page SetUp -- set up landscape paper orientation,
subdivide the page and set the margins;

2. On the Layout tab, under Two–sided printing, make sure Tablet (top to
bottom) is selected (NOT booklet (side to side) as one would expect)

3. When printing: on the print dialog box on the Layout tab ensure that
Use document settings is selected under Two–sided printing; and that
Print as booklet is checked.

In other words, don't fiddle with your printer's property sheet. Let
WordPerfect handle everything.

Before proceeding below: On Page Setup you must first sub-divide the page
(number of columns) and set orientation (portrait/landscape), then:
File > Print
Click "Properties"

In the Printer properties dialog window:
Click the "Finishing" tab.
Check the checkbox for "Print on Both Sides".
Make no other changes.
Click "OK".

Back to Print Dialog window:
Click "Layout" tab.
Check the checkbox for "Print as Booklet"
Make no other changes.
Click "Print".
(Do not check "step 1 or 2" ("Odd or even" under
"Manual"))
(The printer will do this work)

Depending on printer even/odd pages of the booklet are printed first and the
printer software pauses and gives instructions to reinsert the paper for second

printing.

I found one way to print a booklet on a K-M Magicolor 2400. It's not
completely satisfactory but it works.

1. DON'T subdivide the page in Wordperfect. Use a normal non-landscape
page, but set the margins at something like 1" right and left and minimum
at
top and bottom.

2. If you don't want the booklet in tiny print, increase the font size,
e.g, if you want it printed in something like 12 point, set the font size to
18 point.

3. DON'T check the "print as booklet" box in the printer dialog.
Instead,
go to printer properties, "Setup" tab, and look for a box that says
"Duplex/Booklet." It will say "Off" Set it at
"Booklet left edge"
(assuming you're not printing a Japanese document that reads back to front,
that is. )

4. There is a default box underneath the duplex booklet box that, if
checked, prints out a little instruction telling you how to reinsert the
paper. You will want to uncheck that once you have printed a few booklets.

This works, using the printer driver software to do the formatting.
Incidentally, the print speed slows down to 25% as if you were doing color
printing, since the driver is shrinking the text, reformatting, etc. I have
not tried printing a color booklet to see what would happen.
