Problem 1: I set up a new Outline style and saved it, but I can't find it.
All there are when I open the Outline style insert are the original ones.
PROBLEM 2: The outlining works fine, but, occasionally, after I move lines
around (and this is only occasionally) I can no longer get the second level
to work correctly. It will go A, B, C, D, E, F, B, C, D.... In other
words, at some point in the correct outling it starts again at A or B and
goes on from there. I open reveal codes and see nothing that could make a
difference. And I can find no way to change the B to a G.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,
Thank you for this help. But I am still having problems here. Will you
bear with me here.
I have now clicked "Save to Default Template" as you suggest, and this
setting appears in both Format/Styles ... and in Insert/Outline... as you
suggest.
Then I created a Style and went to Options/ Settings/Save As and saved it as
R & A. Then I opened a new document and go to Format/Insert Outline and the
R and A is not there. So I went to Format/InsertOutline/Options/Retrieve
and I see the R & A in the Template(?) folder and click on it. An outline
style does go into the document but it is not the R &A but the regular
default outline style that was there in the folder.
Not sure how to insert the new style.
Thanks, Tom

Okay. I see one thing I was doing wrong was not putting User Defined under
"Based On". I think this part of my problem is okay now.

After: Format|Styles|[Options]|Settings
there are the alternatives:
Save new styles to
(x)Current document
( )Default template
You need the second option.
