I know. I should have posted it here last week, I guess....

I regret its demise, but it failed for legitimate reasons. It failed
from lack of focus and an inability to truly identify the new user and
their real needs. Too much squabbling over Gnome, too many wasted
articles on various window managers that a newbie is not going to
install anyway, and WAY too shallow on coverage in other articles. Most
of what was in Tux was already available on the web in product descriptions.

_Detailed_ tutorials on a simple compile from source, or how to set up
KPilot (and similar) would have been column-inches better invested. Or
simple things like how to turn off some of the oppressive automation of
OO Writer would also have been useful (who really uses word completion?).

Linux Format is decidedly NOT cheap (cost me over $200 CAD for a
subscription this year), but is truly an excellent magazine.

Off-shore interest in Linux is always going to be higher than North
American. The US and Canada will be the last to adopt it. That was
also a strike against Tux.

Unless things have changed recently, you only get SOME of the magazine
articles in the PDF's that they make available.

While the magazine is expensive, I think it is also worthwhile to
support them so that they stay around.

 >No, no - I'm talking about TUX magazine.<

Oh! You said that you had snagged all the past issues when answering my
post about the cost of Linux Format. I naturally thought you were
talking about Linux Format.

As to snagging all the back issues of Tux, I can't be bothered. I
printed (on my color laser) and read them all from issue 1, and I didn't
find anything that was worth archiving.
