I have mentioned here a couple of times that Linspire is the one to
watch. This confirms it.

I can think of nothing but good to come of this. The next Linspire 2.0
should be a winner, and Linspire will gain a great deal of credibility
with the Linux community with this close association with Ubuntu.
Congratulations to both companies for seeing the need for some much
needed common sense in the Linux arena.

BTW, "The next Linspire 2.0" was meant to be "Freespire
2.0". Linspire
6.0 will follow, based on Freespire 2.0.
I agree, Linspire has had performance problems, but I never saw one as
bad as you experienced. Must be something in the difference with our
hardware. Anyway, with them now based on Ubuntu, everything should work
better.
At least on the test laptop I used, SuSE 10.2 is my current speed champ.
I would love for Xandros to succeed, but they don't seem to be gaining
any traction, in spite of good reviews. They don't seem to "get it"
when
it comes to being a player in the Linux arena. Being a stodgy, slow to
react, a-retentive corporation does not endear Xandros to anybody who is
involved with Linux. We have Microsoft available for that role! :-)

Speaking of Xandros not getting it, there's fooze. I was installing
SuSE 10.2 on a friends PC for him. He had Xandros 2.something and
Mandrake 10 along with XP home. (Mandrake has a problem and crashes.)
I installed SuSE 10.2 and modified the bootloader to include Xandros. I
was happy that Xandros booted, but the machine was immediately foozed.
Does the latest versions of Xandros still contain fooze? I removed the
execute attribute from fooze, so hopefully it will not do it again.

As can be seen from the post below, I am trying Xandros 4.1 professional
(having come from Linspire), the thing that I notice is how slow
Linspire is in comparison, in booting up and loading programs. For
example, loading Adobe Acrobat 7 reader easily takes two to three
minutes, under Xandros about 15 seconds. The same is true for OpenOffice .

I believe so. This is part of the automation that allows Xandros to
work well for the newbie. It gets in the way of more experienced users,
however. What you did in removing the exec attribute is the standard
'fix' for this.
By the way, don't rattle Leon's cage on this one. It is one of his
favorite annoyances. :)
