Can't install 2.61

Can't install 2.61
Tue, 08 May 2007 18:25:04 -040
The install for 2.61 hangs on 2 different computers.

1st PC: Win XP SP2 dBASE, 1GB RAM, Plus 2.5 full install,
Ver. 2.5 has worked for a couple of years but now is locking up when I drop
down a combobox. Sometimes it will continue but after a minute or 2.
Tried to install full version of 2.61 on same computer and the process hangs
without showing any interface. I then have to kill the Plusrun process
manually. If I run setup.exe from with in the dbaseplus folder I get the same
response except that I have to kill setup.exe manually.

2nd PC: Win 2000 SP4, 256 MB RAM, Plus 2.5 runtime
Can't install 2.61 runtime or full. Same response as above.

Allen,

Turn off all other software, including your anti-virus.

Make sure you have the manifest files to go with the BDE and dBASE
runtime. See the dBI web site: http://dbase.com/VistaCompatibility.asp

Much of the Vista stuff above applies to the latest versions of XP and
Win2003 server.

You may also need to turn off DEP. See the bottom of Ken Mayer's site:

I've tried eliminating most software, still no change. However, in the past if
the combobox issue came up a reboot would usually fix it, though this doesn't
seem to help anymore.

DEP appears to be off, and as far as the manifest files go, I've been using XP
with SP2 for some time and haven't had this issue. Could a Microsoft update
change anything that might effect it? I haven't seen anyone else ask about the
install problem but I have seen some combobox issues.

The other strange thing is that the other computer having the exact same issue
is a Win 2000 Pro running SP4, and it worked fine till at least a month ago.

Allen,

Yes, those weekly updates from Microsoft can change things dramatically.
That's how XP got DEP. Try the manifest files. It can't hurt.
