John,

You will need to give us more details. Is this a new computer and you
are trying to install dBASE IV v2 for the first time -OR- has this been
on the computer for some time and working before but not now?

Does this PC have Win XP SP1 or SP2?

What are you entering at the DOS prompt that leads to this error
message?

Just so you know, all help is provided here in the news groups, so no
one is likely to phone you. In that way, all can help with the problem
and all can learn from it.

Hello:

I do not have any SP installed. I have dbase iv ver 2.o installed and had been
using it okay for years.

When I want to use the dos version I go to the c prompt and type cd\\, then cd
dabase, then type in dbase. The program should open up then but that is when I
get the error message.

I also note that apparently my Java script is not enabled and I do not know how
to fix that either. I do not know if this is related or not.

Someone did call me and tried to help and we went in to a config32 file or
something like that and changed something from 40 to 99 but it did not help.
Thanks.

John,

If nothing else works, you may need to consider installing SP1 and SP2
as they solve a number of problems.

Have you had it installed and working for years on the SAME PC using the
SAME operating system with NO changes (including Windows Update)?
Obviously, something has changed and you need to tell us what it is that
has changed or we won't be of much help to you.

Javascript will have no affect on dBASE. It has nothing to do with
dBASE. It will only affect your web browser when visiting sites relying
on Javascript.

You were lucky to have someone call. It is not forbidden for the regular
readers of the news group to give a call, but official news group
helpers called dBVIPS will call only if it is a paid call.
