New Plus installation errors

New Plus installation errors
Wed, 20 Feb 2008 07:22:44 -080
I'm using Windows Vista on a laptop.
I've just upgraded from Plus 2.21 to 2.6.1.3.
I did not uninstall 2.21 first.

dBase now hangs up constantly and the debugger doesn't work.

I get a lot of internal errors: "dBase plus has encountered any internal or

operating systems error. Do you want to save any unfinished work before
exiting?"

When I run an application from inside of dBase and an error occurs dBase
hangs up and the navigator and command window close. I have to use the Task
Manager to shut down dBase.

Also, when I run the debugger and set a breakpoint the run application
buttons become disabled.

Should I try uninstalling and then reinstalling dBase or is there maybe
something missing in the .INI file?

Thanks ahead of time for any help.

Ted

Ted,

2.6.1.3 should work on Vista. Try reinstalling it and be sure you are
logged into a User Account which has Admin rights when you run the
installer.

If the problem persists, let us know. I don't have Vista myself so I am
just going by what I've seen here in the news groups.

Hi Geoff,

I completely uninstalled dBase including all directories and registry
entries.
The debugger now works but other than that it still locks up as before.

I would appreciate any other suggestions.

Thank you,
Ted

Ted,

I don't recall anyone having this much trouble. Have you tried "Windows
Update" (or whatever they may now call it for Vista) to be sure Vista is
up-to-date?

Is this locking up occuring only when you run your code or when you try
to do even simple tasks? If the former, then you will need to narrow
down your code to the lines which are causing the problem in order for
someone here to help. Try turning blocks of code into comments until you
find the problem goes away and then add back the lines slowly to
determine "the" line.

If it happens during the simple things like browsing a table, using the
Navigator or starting a new design in dQuery or the Form Designer then
it might be adviseable to contact dBI's Customer Service. They will have
experience with such Vista installation issues.

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for the suggestions.
I've done several things that have helped a lot.
Not sure which one fixed most of the problems but I get almost no lockups
now.
I've purchased and run a new Registry Cleaner.
I recompiled all code files individually.

I still get lockups but not often.
Once I locate the code that causes it I'll report back or call tech support.

Thanks for the help,
Ted
