My apache web app stopped working today and when I checked the server I noticed
that there where at least 12 plusrun.exe listed in the windows xp task manager
process list. After I deleted them the app worked again.
What usually caused this build up and is there something I can do in the app to
avoid them, like capturing the problem and quitting.

Ira,
I am sure you will get other posts on this. Usually the problem is caused
by your apps not terminating properly. Check your error log on Apache.
Also check your access log.
If you search the news group, there have been other posts on this topic and
there are some utilities that will kill plusRun.
Search "plusrun" in this news group and also in the dbasetalk.internet
news
group for similar problems. I saw one from Dan Barbaria on 11/9/06 titled
"PlusRun Hung processes & apache configuration"

Ira,
I just thought of one example where I had a plusrun hang on me. In one of
my apps, if the user selected a lot of records to process, the response was
pretty slow. So one user elected to terminate the process by clicking the
"stop" on his browser. It ended the processing but left the plusrun
in
memory.
