As Glenn points out, you will have to use a "lower-level" table. 
However, you could copy the data you want to merge into a temporary 
table that is the "lower-level" version, with the 10 character field 
names ... that might solve some issues.

Word can't read level 7 tables.
I'd suggest that you just work with the shorter field names on that table, 
or truncated ones for the merge.

dBASE 4 tables (and maybe 5, I haven't checked). His site is here:
