That's how it's always been from what I can recall...
It's part of the reason why I use a custom Grid class that sets the
scrollbars the way I want (horizontal = off; vertical - on)

Trying to use the new 2.6.1.4
Open a form, add an empty table and grid. Assign datalink and set columns. Open
grid width to show all columns plus a bit for the scrollbar. Run the form - NO
scrollbar on grid. Add rows to table. When rows greater than grid height
scrollbar pops up. Odd behaviour - not noticed on previous versions.WAD?

The default setting for the grid's scrollbar properties (vScrollbar and
hScrollbar) is 2 - Auto which has the grid
automatically turning the scrollbar's on when there is enough data in the
grid to require them (either vertically or
horizontally).
Prior to dBASE Plus 2.61.1 auto mode did not work properly for the grid's
vertical scrollbar - in fact it behaved
as if the vertical scrollbar was always on.

Thanks Marty,
That solves that problem.
Care to offer any advice for my other post - giving me a real headache.
