| dBASE 5.0 for DOS - Vista compatible? |
 |
Thu, 27 Dec 2007 13:23:41 -050 |
Hello,
I have posted on other sections of the group and I hope I put this question in
the right category. But is dBase 5.0 for DOS Vista Compatible? We can run the
programs in Windows XP SP2 with no issues. One saving factor may be that we do
not use any windows or anything graphical, it is text output to the screen and
to the printer (no real gui elements).
I don't know enough about the dBASE 5.0 for DOS to know if it falls into the 16
bit category of code that M$ was trying to move away from.
If anybody could confirm or deny the possibility of it working, that would be
great...

High Matthew,
there is NOT a serious problem to run dBASE DOS with Vista.
But... You should _NOT_ install ANY components of the dBASE-DOS system
within 'Vista-protected' directories, such as 'Program files' ...
Also the database-files should not be located in the protected folders.

Lutz,
Thanks for the heads up! I have not used Vista but some of the employees might
have it on home PCs and I was curious if it would even run at all. They don't
necessarily need to install dBASE 5.0 for DOS, but need to be able to run it
from a network share. So they might be in good shape.
Happy New Year!
