Combobox and laptops

Combobox and laptops
Fri, 15 Feb 2008 07:43:32 +010
I was told by few clients that my app does not work proper on laptop. When
they try to select option (with mouse) from (any) combobox, the app freezes.
However, it works when selection is made from keyboard in it works normal on
PC.

I should appreciate any suggestion to solve the problem.

Anton,

Which version of Windows do your clients have? Which version of dBASE
are you using to make these programs? Which version of the dBASE runtime
are you deploying with your application (if it is different from the
version you use to create the programs)?

Was the program working successfully in the past on those specific PCs
or have they just installed your software recently and encountered this
problem?

I use dbplus version 2.5.0.0. and I also distribute runtime version
2.5.0.0. My clients use Windows XP professional.

It happend once on my PC that I have the same problem just after installing
acrobat reader version 8. I solved the problem by deinstaling acrobat reader
ver. 8. However that was not the only problem with my PC (for example, I
cannot open Events in Inspector in DB5.7 on any of the 3 PCs that was bought
a year ago) and I was sure that the reason is a kind of incompatibility of
hardware that causes the problem.

I have few hundred instalation of my app and I know that some instalations
are on lap tops and work without problem. So far I have no complaints
about combobox on any instalation on PC or on server.

In the last 2 months I got 2 complaints and one of the customer deinstaled
acrobat reader 8 without any succes. They have also problem with installing
the program. The install program did not install dbplus until they typed
ctlr+alt+del and before exiting dbplus was installed.

Anton,

I do recall some people having combobox problems with (I think your
version of dBASE PLUS) on Win XP SP1. Upgrading to SP2 solved the
problem in those cases.

Beyond that, I'm not sure what to suggest. You could use the news group
archives and Google Groups to check old news group postings about the
combobox.

The combobox was overhauled for dB+ 2.6.1.2 and a bit more in 2.6.1.3,
so perhaps an upgrade will help in the long-term. I know I appreciate
the onChangeCommitted() event.
