Ink jet printer

Ink jet printer
Fri, 22 Feb 2008 15:14:50 -050
I am using dBase lll+ for home data bases. I have used this program for about
20 years and really like it

I have no problem printing reports, etc., to my old dot matrix printer, but
would like to send the output to my Canon inkjet printer to be printed.

I would appreciate any help regarding this problem.

Also, is/are there any updates for my DOS based dBase lll+ so it will run under
a Windows environment.

Albert,

Although you don't mention which version of Windows you are using, to
handle the printing, this past message will probably be what you want:

No Problem:

Go into your printer properties of the USB Printer that you want to
use and check off "Printer Pooling". Make sure that BOTH the USB
that
is connected to the printer AS WELL AS the LPT1: are selected. In this
way the computer is happy and the old LPT1: calls are rerouted to the
new printer port via a pool redirection.

Good Luck.

Others have been able to keep their DOS programs running on the latest
versions. I don't have experience with that. I do know some have
acquired "dBASE 5 for DOS" (the last DOS product) as it runs dBASE III

and IV code well and offers new features.

Beyond the printing issue, have you encountered any other specific
problems?

Thanks for the credit Geoff ...

As far as using dBase III+ under windows ... I continue to this day to run
dozens of these programs in a DOS window (Command Prompt). Many of these
programs work perfectly and do not need a revised front end. For the couple
apps that are interactive, I have been exceptionally pleased with Visual dBase
(dBase Plus). This has allowed me to leave data essentially alone and just
rewrite the front end. If you still enjoy the process, you'll love the new
capabilities!

John,

No problem. Thank-you for providing the printer pooling information and
for confirming dBASE III+ can work under latest versions of Windows.
