| Running from CD |

Hi!
I'm here again!
Have managed to compile an application.
It runs on the original drive.
Copy to CD, (drive F ) and no go.
Opens file, closes immediately.
In DOS box, same, but I get message
" File in use by another: f:/login.db
*** Initialization error ***"
Have copied the config and login files across, but no change.
What am I doing wrong?
Windows XP SP 2, files set under "compatibility" to Windows ME
Thanks!
george

George,
I have not done this type of thing, so I am not speaking from
experience.
One thing I know is that files copied from a CD onto a hard drive often
end up with the "read-only" file attribute turned on. You can right-
click on the file(s) in Windows Explorer and look at the "properties".
On the bottom you should be sure "read-only" is unchecked.
It looks to me that your program is trying to write to a file (login.db)
and it cannot on the CD. There is an article in the dBulletin regarding
putting a dBASE PLUS application on a CD. It probably will have some
pointers you can use. The dBulletin is found here:

Hi!
Hm....
Straight to the core, straight to the solution.
I am never less than amazed at the help given here.
It was indeed trying to write to login.db that was of course read-only.
So, just copy to a read/write drive and all is well.
Again, many thanks.

George,
LOL! I'm so glad it worked out so well. Thanks for the success report.
