Unless you have a LOT of URLs that are identical for the first 100
characters, you really won't gain much by indexing all 254 characters.
You can still use fields longer than that, and index them if you use
only the first 100 chars in the index expression.

I use a lot the longggggggggg links to web sites
normally of more than 100 characters.
Also people put files in very long paths to put their files
Since there is a limit on indexing a character field of 100
characters I wonder how complicated it would be to
extend that limit to the field limit of a table 254 characters.
At least it would help.
