Differences between PCI versions

Differences between PCI versions

Hi!

What's the difference between PCI, PCI 2.1, PCI-X and PCI-64?

Google being our friend, you must have found it out by yourself already:

 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI-X
 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI-Express
 http://www.pcisig.com/specifications/conventional/conventional_pci/
 http://www.aspsys.com/hardware/comparisons/default.aspx/other_pci.aspx

------------------------------------------------------------------------
---
PCI [ stands for Peripheral Component Interconnect ]
Frequency 33 - 66 MHz
Throughput Peak transfer rate of 133 MB/s
Bus 32-bit parallel
------------------------------------------------------------------------
---
PCI-X [ evolution of the PCI bus with an extended PCI socket ]
Frequency 133 MHz (PCI-X 2.0 - 266 MHz, 533 MHz)
Throughput Peak transfer rate of 1 GB/s (PCI-X 2.0 - 2 GB/s)
Bus 64-bit
------------------------------------------------------------------------
---
PCI Express [ serial implementation of the PCI bus using its own set of
              sockets with various sizes
not to confuse with PCI-X ]
Throughput 5 - 80 gigabits per second (Gbps) peak theoretical
            bandwidth, depending on the implementation (e.g. x1 - x16)
Bus serial
------------------------------------------------------------------------
---

But what's the connection with ecomstation.support.hardware?

Have a nice day.

It *is* connected to the ecomstation.hardware ng as my box runs both
WSeB, eCs 1.2, ecs20rc3 and soon I'm going to zap the ecs20rc3 volume
and install ecs20rc4 on it instead. I've still have nervous jitters just
thinking about trying to save the WSeB setup, zap it, replace it with
ecs20rc4 and reinstalling all apps now currently installed under WSeB.
So before taking that plunge I must put away about $177 so I can
complete my order for Diazepam/Valium 18mg, 100tablets - I will NEED
them when the fateful day arrives!

When I went through the available USB cards on www.dustin.se, some were
plain PCI cards, some were PCI 2.1, some were PCI-X and some were
PCI-64, that's why I asked the question here. All these variants of PCI
made very confused so I wished someone (namely you, tnx) could shed some
light on the PCI variations. Wouldn't it be a pity if I shelled out
perhaps $75-100 for a USB 2.0 card that would be totally unusable in my
box? I'm not that rich and as I'm in Chapter 7 Bankruptcy I can't fling
money around but must hoard every two-bit I get from my trustee which is
appointed by the District Court - the weekly allowance I get from my
trustee is about 95USD and it should cover everything except rent,
electricity, phone bills, internet access, cable TV, food and home
service. It must cover OTC drugs, bread, cheese, a few packs of John
Silver w/filter, tea, drinking juice and other odds and ends. To buy the
USB 2.0 card + ECC SDRAM means that I must put away money during a whole
month till I'v accumulated enough funds to buy the stuff in one go.
Fortunately a guy I know will install the stuff in my box without
charging me anything. And of course I can't change my box in my present
economic situation: I just have to hope and pray to the Great Mother
that it will hold together until 2016-2017 when the Chap.7 Bankruptcy
will be over :-(
