| Network installation on IBM Netfinity 4500R |

I am trying to move an old installation from an ailing computer to a still
robust Netfinity 4500R. The installation from the eComStation CD works
fine, it installs nicely to the RAID, but I am not able to get the network
activated. I have downloaded drivers from IBM, and have tried to install
them in MPTN. I seem to recall thet there were some tricks, but have long
since forgotten about it.
Does anybody have a hint, or even a working configuration I might try to
copy?

Presuming that you have the correct drivers for the nic available you
should run Local System -> System Setup -> Network -> Adaptors and
Protocols (MPTS)
You already have have a networking setup from when the system ran in the
previous box - well, you did have and it will probably be easier to
reinstall that from backup and start from there.
All you need to do is select the new nic driver and click "Change".
However, This is where the fun starts :-)
You do not state which version of eCS is involved.
From 1.2 on all you need to do is reboot and all should then work - you
have switched nics and updated all involved configuration files.
I think eCS1.1 required starting Adaptors and Protocols from a supplied
cmd file which also did the update all involved configuration files bit
when you exited Adaptors and Protocols.
I cannot remember the name of the cmd file but hope someone will be able
to leap in there.
I'm not sure if that cmd file is usable on eCS1.0
If it is not then you need to update several files to reflect the
changes; I think config.sys gets updated but you need to check
protocol.ini and... was it ibmlan.ini?
Hope the above helps a little :-)

Unfortunately, the old computer is totally different with a different
network adapter, so the old setup is not of much help.
My installation is for eCS 1.1, it has been running unchanged since it was
released :-)
